Thailand's Baht Near Decade High; Speculation Exporters Exacerbated Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Thailand's baht traded at the
strongest in almost a decade on speculation exporters accelerated
demand for the currency after it rose beyond 34 to the dollar.

Foreign purchases of Thai stocks and the currency have
pushed the baht to the highest since the Asian financial crisis,
with exporters concerned about further gains exacerbating the
appreciation. Bank of Thailand Governor Tarisa Watanagase urged
exporters to refrain from ``panic'' selling of U.S. dollars as
the baht took its advance to almost 3 percent the past nine days.
