(Bloomberg) -- European finance ministers struggled
to find a candidate for the top post at the International
Monetary Fund, as Poland mulled making a nomination and Britain
called for an ``open'' selection process.
The only declared candidate so far, former French finance
minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn, picked up Luxembourg's and
Belgium's backing. Poland may today nominate Leszek Balcerowicz,
a former finance minister and central banker known for the
``shock therapy'' that jolted Poland toward the free market after
the fall of communism.
