European Stocks Advance; SAP, Roche, Vodafone, BHP Billtion Pace the Gains

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first
time in three days after profit from SAP AG and Roche Holding AG
beat analysts' estimates, boosting prospects for earnings growth.

Vodafone Group Plc gained after the world's largest mobile-
phone company said it added more subscribers than analysts
anticipated. BHP Billiton Ltd. and Anglo American Plc led mining
stocks higher as copper rallied for a second day in Asia.

Rebel investor seeks to turn up heat on Vodafone

(Reuters) - "At last Vodafone seems to have recognized that it must have a coherent strategy for its investment in Verizon Wireless," ECS Chairman Glenn Cooper said in a statement.




"The ill-conceived plans leaked to the Financial Times show Vodafone does not have one."

US STOCKS-Indexes little changed; Verizon up on M&A talk

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 16 - U.S. stocks were little
changed on Monday as investors paused after Friday's record
highs to weigh the latest speculation on the mergers and
acquisition front.




Shares of Verizon Communications were the top gainer
on the Dow after a Financial Times Web site said on Monday
Vodafone Group was considering a $160 billion takeover
bid for the U.S. wireless operator. Vodafone denied the report,
but Verizon shares still rose 2.5 percent to $42.81.

Vodafone says has no plans to bid for Verizon

(Reuters) - Earlier on Monday, the Financial Times reported on its Alphaville Web site that Vodafone had been considering a $160 billion bid for Verizon.

Verizon rises further on Vodafone bid talk

(Reuters) - Meanwhile, U.S.-listed shares of Vodafone were down 1.7 percent at $32.97 in electronic trade. In London, Vodafone shares also slipped 1.5 percent.

European Industrial Stocks Fall, Led by Volvo, SKF; Vodafone Gains

(Bloomberg) -- European industrial stocks declined,
led by Volvo AB after JPMorgan Chase & Co. downgraded shares of
Europe's second-largest truckmaker.

SKF AB slid after Morgan Stanley recommended investors
reduce holdings of the world's biggest maker of ball bearings for
cars and planes. Vodafone Group Plc led telecommunications shares
higher after the company received a letter from an activist
investment group calling for a restructuring.

FTSE up on Vodafone, insurers; Daily Mail down

(Reuters) - Britain's leading share index edged up early on Tuesday, helped by a turnaround in the Chinese markets and gains in insurers and index heavyweight Vodafone.

At 0804 GMT the FTSE 100 was up 9.6 points, or 0.14 percent at 6,674.3.
