U.S. Stock-Index Futures Gain; Motorola, Ford Shares Advance in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures rose before
five members of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, including
Charles Schwab Corp., the biggest discount brokerage, and Mattel
Inc., the world's largest toymaker, report earnings.

Motorola Inc. gained in Europe after Deutsche Bank AG
recommended buying shares of the world's second-biggest maker of
mobile phones. Ford Motor Co. also climbed. Newspapers including
the Sunday Times reported that the second-biggest U.S. automaker
may sell its profitable Volvo Car Corp. business.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Fall; Home Depot, Sears Holdings Shares Decline

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures retreated
on concern the housing slump will hurt earnings after Home Depot
Inc. and Sears Holdings Corp. said their profits will fall.

Home Depot, the world's largest home-improvement retailer,
dropped after cutting its full-year forecast. Sears, the biggest
U.S. department-store company, plunged after forecasting
earnings below analysts' estimates due to declining sales.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Gain on Earnings Optimism; Alcoa, Boeing Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures rose on
speculation Alcoa Inc. will kick off the second-quarter earnings
season with results that beat analysts' estimates.

Boeing Co., the world's second-largest commercial airplane
maker, advanced on reports it received orders for its 787
Dreamliner. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. soared after Roche
Holding AG, the biggest maker of cancer medicines, agreed to buy
the rights to its therapeutic technology for up to $1 billion.

U.S. Stock Futures Pare Gain After Growth in Employment Exceeds Forecast

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures pared gains
after employers hired more workers than economists forecast and
wages grew last month, spurring concern that an expanding economy
will stoke inflation.

U.S. companies added 132,000 workers to payrolls in June
while average hourly earnings advanced 0.3 percent. The increase
followed a 190,000-job gain in May that was larger than
previously forecast.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Decline; Palm Shares Drop, Apple Gains in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell before
a government report that may show a price gauge tied to consumer
spending rose due to higher energy prices.

``Inflation remains the main concern,'' said Carsten Klude,
who helps manage $20 billion as head of investment strategies
at M.M. Warburg & Co. in Hamburg. ``Yesterday's Fed statement
was neither fish nor fowl. Today all eyes are on the economic
reports.''
