Wall St tumbles on oil, housing, credit woes

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks tumbled on Thursday as a surge in oil prices, concern about the housing slump and a worsening climate for financing takeovers cut investors' appetite for risk in a global equities sell-off.

News of a disappointing quarterly profit from Exxon Mobil Corp. weighed on the energy sector and sent Exxon shares down more than 3 percent.

Exxon Mobil Is First Company With Market Value of Exceeding $500 Billion

(Bloomberg) -- Exxon Mobil Corp., the oil company
John D. Rockefeller formed in 1882, became the first publicly
traded company valued above half a trillion dollars.

Shares of Exxon Mobil rose 2.7 percent today, pushing the
market capitalization of the Irving, Texas, company to $504.9
billion. That's more than the annual economic output of
Argentina, Finland and Kazakhstan combined. A 40 percent gain in
the past 12 months has made Exxon Mobil 26 percent bigger than
General Electric Co., the next largest U.S. company.

U.S. Energy Stocks Rally as Oil Rises; S&P 500 Index Is Little Changed

(Bloomberg) -- Energy producers rallied after the
price of crude oil climbed, while utilities retreated as bond
yields remained near five-year highs.

Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp. rose after oil advanced
on concern U.S. refiners aren't keeping up with increased gasoline
demand. Exelon Corp. and Dominion Resources Inc. led shares of
utilities lower as higher returns on bonds make their dividends
less appealing.

U.S. Stocks Rally, S&P 500 Rises Most in Eight Weeks; GM, Alcoa Pace Gains

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks rallied and the
Standard and Poor's 500 Index posted its best weekly gain
since April after bond yields fell from a five-year high
and the Federal Reserve said the economy is growing without
fueling inflation.

General Motors Corp., Alcoa Inc. and Intel Corp.
helped push the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average to
within 0.5 percent of records. Exxon Mobil Corp., the
world's largest oil company, led energy shares to the best
gain among 10 industry groups in the S&P 500 as crude
prices climbed to the highest since September.

US indexes flat; oil lifts sector but rates a concern

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended little changed on Monday as rising oil prices boosted the energy sector but lingering concern about higher interest rates kept investors on the defensive.

Exxon Mobil Corp. helped lead the Standard & Poor's 500 index higher as oil prices rose nearly 2 percent on news Saudi Arabia will keep OPEC supply limits in place through July.

U.S. Stocks Rise on Buyout Speculation; Simon Property, Exxon Lead Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks advanced for a third day
on buyout speculation in the real-estate industry and a jump in
oil prices that lifted shares of energy producers.

Simon Property Group, the largest U.S. real estate
investment trust, climbed after Deutsche Bank AG upgraded its
shares and seven other companies in the industry following the
$13.5 billion buyout of Archstone-Smith Trust. Energy shares,
led by Exxon Mobil Corp., contributed the most to the gain in
the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
