RadioShack posts quarterly profit

(Reuters) - Analysts expected profit of 25 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates. It was not immediately clear whether the estimates were comparable.




Sales fell 15 percent to $934.8 million, short of analysts' estimates of $983.6 million. Same-store sales fell 8.9 percent. In its statement, the company said the post-paid wireless business and the closure of 481 stores in 2006 hurt sales.

China Yangtze Power Profit Jumps 72 Percent on Output, Sale of Bank Stake

(Bloomberg) -- China Yangtze Power Co., operator of
the world's biggest hydropower project, said first-half profit
jumped 72 percent after the company sold shares in a bank and as
electricity output rose.

Net income surged to 2.25 billion yuan ($298 million), or
0.268 yuan a share, from 1.31 billion yuan, or 0.16 yuan, a year
earlier, Yangtze Power said in a statement to Shanghai's stock
exchange today. Sales rose 12 percent to 3.4 billion yuan.

Moog posts higher quarterly earnings, revises 2007 view

(Reuters) - Sales in the latest quarter rose 21 percent to $403.8
million. Analysts on average expected $370.6 million.




The company revised its outlook for the year and said it
expects earnings of $100.6 million, or $2.33 a share, on
revenue of $1.54 billion. Analysts on average expects earnings
of $2.36 a share on revenue of $1.48 billion.

UPDATE 1-U.S. existing home sales fell in June

(Reuters) - WASHINGTON, July 25 - The pace of existing home
sales in the United States fell in June to a
lower-than-expected 5.75 million unit annual rate while prices
and inventories showed signs of stabilizing, the National
Association of Realtors said in a report on Wednesday.




Sales were off 3.8 percent in June and hit their lowest
since November 2002 when it was 5.73 million unit pace.

Existing home sales fell in June

(Reuters) - Economists polled by Reuters were expecting home resales to fall to a 5.88 million-unit pace from the 5.99 million-unit rate initially reported for May. Sales were revised in May to 5.98 million units.




The inventory of homes for sale fell 4.2 percent to 4.196 million units at the end of June, which represents an 8.8 months' supply.

KKR, Homeowners Face Funding Drain as CDO Money-Making Machine Shuts Down

(Bloomberg) -- The Wall Street money-machine known
as collateralized debt obligations is grinding to a halt,
imperiling $8.6 billion in annual underwriting fees and reducing
credit for everyone from buyout king Henry Kravis to homeowners.

Sales of the securities -- used to pool bonds, loans and
their derivatives into new debt -- dwindled to $3.7 billion in
the U.S. this month from $42 billion in June, analysts at New
York-based JPMorgan Chase & Co. said yesterday. The market is
``virtually shut,'' the bank said in a July 13 report.

Western Mining Profit Surges 55 Percent After $820 Million IPO in Shanghai

(Bloomberg) -- Western Mining Co., a Chinese metals
producer that raised 6.2 billion yuan ($820 million) in a July
12 initial public offering in Shanghai, said first-half profit
gained 55 percent on higher prices of metal concentrates.

Net income rose to 858.5 million yuan from 553.4 million
yuan a year earlier, the Xining, Qinghai province-based company
said in a statement to the Shanghai stock exchange today, citing
preliminary figures. Sales rose 30 percent to 3.64 billion yuan
from 2.8 billion yuan. The company mines raw materials for zinc,
nickel and copper.

AptarGroup second-quarter profit rises

(Reuters) - The company said net income for the latest second quarter was $37.0 million, or 52 cents a share, compared with $27.7 million, or 39 cents a share, a year ago. Sales rose 19 percent to $472.9 million for the quarter.



For the latest second quarter, analysts had on average expected the company to earn 51 cents a share, excluding special items, on revenue of $461.6 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Motorola, Abbott Laboratories Fall; American Eagle Gains: U.S. After-Hours

(Bloomberg) -- Motorola Inc. fell in extended U.S.
trading after the world's second-biggest maker of mobile phones
said it had a quarterly loss as sales missed its forecasts for
the third time this year.

Shares of the Schaumburg, Illinois-based company declined
25 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $17.70 as of 6:36 p.m. in New York.
Motorola said in a preliminary statement that it had a second-
quarter loss of as much as 4 cents a share. Sales were between
$8.6 billion and $8.7 billion, the company said. That compares
with Motorola's April prediction for per-share earnings of as
much as 3 cents on sales of $9.4 billion.

U.S. home sales, prices to slip more this year: NAR

(Reuters) - The National Association of Realtors trimmed its sales forecast for the fifth straight month and also widened its predicted drop in existing home values.




Existing-home sales are seen at 6.11 million units this year, down from the 6.18 million units it predicted last month. Sales in 2007 will be the lowest since 2002 when 5.63 million existing homes were sold. Even with the decline, this year would rank as the fifth highest on record, the trade group said.

Taiwan UMC's June sales fall 0.44 pct from yr ago

(Reuters) - Sales at United Microelectronics Corp. were T$8.745 billion last month, lower than T$8.784 billion in the same month last year, the company said on its Web site . UMC had sales of T$8.220 billion in May.

ServiceMaster, Ceridian, First Data Plan Sales: U.S. Corporate Bond Alert

(Bloomberg) -- ServiceMaster Co., the owner of the
TrueGreen lawn care and Terminix pest control businesses, and
Ceridian Corp. are among borrowers seeking to raise at least
$54.3 billion of bonds in the U.S., according to data compiled by
Bloomberg.

Companies sold $129.5 in bonds in June, compared with $146.5
billion in May. Sales year-to-date total $666.7 billion, up from
$553.1 billion a year ago.

Australian Corporate Bond Sales Drop This Month on Risk Aversion, S&P Says

(Bloomberg) -- Sales of Australian corporate bonds
in June have fallen to the lowest this year as investors shun
risky assets, according to Standard & Poor's.

The ratings company's figures show corporate debt issuance
slowed to A$2.5 billion ($2.1 billion) in June compared with
average monthly sales of A$5.6 billion this year. Sales this
month are less than a quarter of February's total amid concerns
that hedge-fund losses in the U.S. subprime mortgage market will
snowball and impact the creditworthiness of other borrowers.

New home sales, consumer confidence fall

(Reuters) - "These are numbers that are consistent with a slowing down
in activity, a moderation on the consumption side," said Steven
Wieting, an economist with Citigroup Global Markets in New
York.




Sales of new U.S. homes fell 1.6 percent last month to an
annual rate of 915,000 units from a downwardly revised pace of
930,000 in April, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday.
Analysts had been looking for May new home sales of 925,000.

UPDATE 1-Help sought in Chinese tire recall after accident

(Reuters) - The tires, made by Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co., have an
insufficient or missing gum strip, a safety feature that helps
prevent them from separating, the lawyers and a consumers'
group said in a statement. The group, Safety Research &
Strategies, is urging retailers and wholesalers to stop selling
the tires.




The New Jersey importer, Foreign Tire Sales, has told U.S.
safety officials the tires were sold under the names Westlake,
Telluride Compass and YKS, according to lawyers representing
families of people involved in the fatal car accident blamed on
the tires.

Existing home sales down slightly in May

(Reuters) - Sales were off 0.3 percent in May and hit their lowest level since June 2003 when the pace was 5.94 million units.




The inventory of homes for sale rose 5.0 percent to 4.43 million units at the end of May which represents 8.9 months' supply at the current sales pace. That is the highest months' supply since June 1992, although the 1992 figure only includes single-family homes while the current data also includes condos.

South Korean Department Store Sales Fall for Second Month on Lending Clam

(Bloomberg) -- South Korea's department store sales
declined for a second month in May as a clampdown on the housing
market reduced home sales and sapped demand for home appliances
and furniture.

Sales at the nation's three biggest department store chains
dropped 0.1 percent from a year earlier after shedding 2.3
percent in April, the Commerce Ministry said today in Gwacheon,
South Korea.

Shermag posts smaller fourth-quarter loss

(Reuters) - Gross revenue fell 28.7 percent to C$34.1 million from
C$47.8 million, largely due to a "general softness" in the U.S.
market, the company said. Sales were also hit by foreign
exchange movements.




The latest quarter was hit by C$1.7 million in
restructuring costs, while the bigger year-ago loss included
C$19.5 million in severance expenses and other charges.

Target May same-store sales up 5.8 pct

(Reuters) - Analysts, on average, were expecting it to report a gain of 5.9 percent, according to a Reuters survey. The company had forecast May same-store sales to rise between 5 percent and 7 percent.



Sales for the four weeks ended June 2, rose to $4.325 billion from $3.929 billion a year earlier.
