Canadian Stocks Drop, Led by Barrick. Meridian, on Falling Metals Prices

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks dropped a fourth
straight day as Barrick Gold Corp. led raw-materials shares lower
on falling price for bullion and copper.

The Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index declined 72.07, or
0.5 percent, to 13,996.09 as of 10:45 a.m. in Toronto, after
earlier climbing as much as 1 percent earlier on better-than-
expected earnings from natural-gas company EnCana Corp.. Yesterday,
the benchmark fell 400.17 points, or 2.8 percent, its worst drop
since April 2004.

Canadian Stocks Fall a Third Day on Railroad Profits, Crude Oil Prices

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks fell the most in more
than a month after Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. followed rival
Canadian National Railway Co. in reporting a drop in profit.

Crude oil and natural-gas prices slid, dragging down energy
companies including EnCana Corp., and stoking speculation that such
gas-producing energy royalty trusts as Advantage Energy Income Fund
may cut their dividends.

Canadian Stocks Decline, Led by Biovail; Royal, Bank of Nova Scotia Rise

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks fell, led by Biovail
Corp. after regulators rejected the drugmaker's application for
approval of an antidepressant.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index dropped for the first time in four
days, falling 31.50, or 0.2 percent, to 14,594.26 in Toronto at
10:02 a.m. in Toronto.

Canadian Stocks May Rise, led By Research In Motion; Kinross May Advance

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks may rise for a fourth
day after Research In Motion Ltd.'s market value exceeded Motorola
Inc.'s for the first time and investors speculated that gold prices
may increase for a third week.

Research In Motion, the BlackBerry maker, may rise 1 percent
to C$241.18, based on bids already submitted on the Toronto Stock
Exchange. The company's market capitalization surpassed Motorola's
after it won a greater share of sales with its e-mail-equipped
phones.

Canadian Stocks Climb to Record on Rio Tinto's Bid for Alcan; Teck Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks rose, sending the
benchmark index to another record, after Rio Tinto offered to buy
aluminum maker Alcan Inc. for $38.1 billion, fueling takeover
speculation on other materials stocks.

A five-year rally in commodities that's lifted many metals
to records has spurred more than $106 billion of proposed takeovers
in the mining and metals industry so far this year, according to
Bloomberg data. Inmet Mining Corp. and Teck Cominco Ltd. gained
along with Alcan on the Toronto stock exchange today.

Canada Stocks Poised to Extend Gains on Buyouts; Telus Shares May Advance

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks may rise for a third
day after Blackstone Group LP's buyout of Hilton Hotels Corp.
spurred more takeover speculation.

Telus Corp. may pace gains in Canada on speculation it will
either seek to top the offer accepted by BCE Inc. from Ontario
Teachers' Pension Plan, or become the target of a buyout itself.

Canada Stocks May Rise, Led by BCE; Rate Sensitive Shares May Limit Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks may rise on takeover
speculation after BCE Inc., Canada's largest phone company, said
it's in talks about a possible sale to Telus Corp., the fourth
party to consider what would be the country's biggest buyout.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. may lead energy shares higher,
after crude oil prices approached $70 a barrel. Gains in the market
may be limited as interest-rate sensitive financial shares decline
on rising bond yields in the U.S., the world's largest economy.

Canadian Stocks May Drop With European, U.S. Shares After China's Plunge

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks may decline after
China's benchmark stock index plunged on concerns the government
won't try to stop a fall that's erased more than $350 billion of
market value in four days.

``I see mostly negatives at the moment,'' said Fred Ketchen,
director of equity trading at Scotia McLeod Inc. in Toronto.
``Given the declines we've seen in Europe and the U.S. market, I
don't know why we would buck the trend.''

Canadian Stocks Rise, Led by Energy and Material Producers; Talisman Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks rose as energy producers
climbed with oil and natural gas prices on speculation that an
expected increase in gasoline stockpiles won't be large enough to
reduce a supply deficit.

Talisman Energy Inc., an oil and natural gas producer, led a
gauge of energy companies, adding 40 cents to C$21.84. EnCana
Corp., the country's biggest gas producer, rose 99 cents to
C$65.48.
