UPDATE 1-Toromont profit jumps 53 percent on land sale

(Reuters) - The company, which supplies Caterpillar heavy
equipment and specialty equipment, said it earned C$38.1
million , or 59 Canadian cents a share, in the
quarter ended June 30.




That compares with net earnings of C$24.9 million, or 39
Canadian cents per share, in the same period last year.

US STOCKS-Wall St falls on earnings misses and subprime woes

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 20 - U.S. stocks slid sharply on
Friday, after bellwether stocks such as Caterpillar and Google
posted disappointing earnings.




Worries over the impact of the housing slump and losses
from risky mortgages also weighed on stocks.

Wall Street gains on data, takeover news

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose on Monday, lifted by takeover news and data showing stronger manufacturing growth in June even as price pressures eased.

As the data reassured investors about the economy, shares of large industrial companies such as Caterpillar Inc. and Honeywell International gained.
