Sprycel said to work as 1st treatment in blood cancer

(Reuters) - But the trial was too small to tell if Sprycel is superior, researchers told a meeting of cancer specialists. More tests are needed to show if Sprycel should be given first, keeping Gleevec as a back-up if the cancer, a type known as chronic myelogenous leukemia or CML, comes back.




"This is a hint that it might be as good or maybe a little bit better initially," said Dr. Mitchell Smith, of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, who was not involved with the study.

U.S. urges Swiss banks to steer clear of Iran

(Reuters) - "We delivered new evidence that implicates Iranian
financial institutions in the uranium enrichment program,"
Levey said in an interview in French-language daily Le Temps.




"We came to offer new information to Swiss bank executives
to make them aware of the risks to their reputation they could
run by maintaining financial relations with Iran."

Xstrata says won't match Norilsk offer for LionOre

(Reuters) - Xstrata Plc said on Friday it would not exercise its right to match Norilsk Nickel's C$6.8 billion takeover offer for Canada's LionOre Mining International Ltd..

Norilsk unveiled its enhanced bid last week, which topped Xstrata's most recent offer of C$6.2 billion. LionOre determined Norilsk's offer superior to Xstrata's.
